Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a world UNESCO heritage site that was designated in 1994. It is popularly known for being home to more than half of the world’s endangered mountain gorilla population. The park has various ecosystems set in lowland rainforest and montane forest vegetation. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home 120 species of mammals, about 1000 plant species, 350 bird species. And also, 220 species of butterflies, 27 species of endangered species like frogs and chameleons. What makes this park unique is its gorilla trekking safaris. Murchison Falls National Park is the biggest national park in Uganda covering an area of 3840 square kilometers. It is home to the mighty Murchison Falls where the whole Nile River squeezes itself narrow gorge of only 7 meters wide to form the spectacular waterfalls. Besides the waterfalls, Murchison Falls National Park is rich in wildlife and birdlife with four of the big five animals. It also has biggest population of the Nile crocodiles in Uganda and also one of the national parks with chimpanzees.

Kibale National Park is the prime destination in Uganda where you can find primates. It has 13 primate species including chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, and baboons among others. The natural moist evergreen tropical rainforest is also home to about 70 species of mammals. And also, home to 375 species of birds, a variety of butterflies, moths and plant species. Kibale National Park offers the best chimpanzee trekking safari. With around 1000 chimpanzees in the forest some of which are habituated.

Lake Mburo National Park is the smallest savannah park in Uganda covering an area of 370 square kilometers. With the presence of 13 lakes, the park forms a 50 kilometer long wetland system which supplemented by woodland vegetation. In the park, you will be able to see various animals like zebras, leopards, buffaloes, impalas, antelopes, hippos and different bird species. Lake Mburo National Park offers a great platform for photography with its outstanding views.

Kidepo Valley National Park is the remotest national park and distant from other parks. With its exceptional wilderness, this semi-arid savannah park offers the best Uganda safari because of its untouched beauty. Kidepo Valley National park set in savannah plains and valleys surrounded by mountain ranges where animals roam freely. These animals include carnivore species like cheetah, Bat eared fox, Aard wolf, Caracal and hunting dog that are only found in Kidepo but not in any other Ugandan park. Semuliki National Park is situated in the western arm of the East African Rift Valley. It lies on the border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo in Western Uganda. The park has tropical lowland rainforest which is an extension of the Ituri forest of Congo. It is home to the spectacular Sempaya hot springs and the Batwa pygmies that came from the Ituri forest. With about 441 bird species, Semuliki National Park is also a favorable birding destination. It also has a rich ecosystem with diversified habitats where its 53 mammal species move freely. The park is also home to 336 species of trees with some species restricted to Semuliki and lastly, 81 species of moths, 374 butterfly species.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is the smallest National Park in Uganda covering 33.7 square kilometers. This is one of the park that is Uganda’s Best Safari Destinations example. It forms part of the Virunga Conservation area and with its three extinct volcanoes being part of the Virunga ranges. The park is home to the endangered mountain gorillas with one habituated gorilla family. Rwenzori Mountains National Park also popularly known as the “Mountains of the moon” is a world heritage site located in western Uganda along Uganda’s border with Congo. Mount Elgon National Park is home to an extinct volcano that sits on the biggest volcanic base in the world. It is the oldest volcano in Uganda located at the Uganda – Kenya Border.
