A new chimpanzee born to the family of Ngamba Island – Uganda Safari Tours
The Primate Fraternity in Ngamba island has been gifted with a newborn chimpanzee Baby girl by Chimpanzee Natasha at 5:40 pm. Ngamba island is a chimpanzee sanctuary located in Lake Victoria and its currently home to 49 Chimpanzees now 50 that have been Rescued from all over Uganda.
Chimpanzee Natasha is an adult female chimpanzee the gave birth to the newborn chimpanzee, one of the first 19 chimpanzees to arrive at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary on 12th October 1998. The newborn baby has increased the total number of chimpanzees at the Sanctuary in Uganda to 50 (20 males and 30 females).
Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Lake Victoria is managed by Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust (Chimpanzee Trust), is a registered Non – Governmental Organization.
The sanctuary’s main creation was to serve their mission of long-term management of confiscated individuals that cannot be returned to the wild, the rate of Chimpanzee Births is 2 chimpanzees per annum. This has assured a steady increase in the number of chimpanzees of the years.
Natasha is one of the popular chimps at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, especially amongst the males as she is also known to continue cycling even while on contraceptive implants. Natasha is also known as the most intelligent chimpanzee in the world. Natasha’s pregnancy was confirmed early in the year after conducting a routine pregnancy tests on the female Chimpanzees.
At Ngamba Island, Chimpanzees have the freedom to stay in the forest and return to a large flat area for extra food and hay to build their nests.
Chimpanzees can also be found in Kibaale National Park i.e. Kyambura Gorge where the Chimpanzee trekking permit was raised from 150 dollars to 200 Dollars Per person, not forgetting Budongo Forest in Murchison Falls National Park, The Chimpanzee Trekking and Chimp tracking done here gives a clear view and experience of Primates’ life in the wild, a fun experience.
