Gorillas in Bwindi on rise
The number of mountain Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable forest has increased from 400 to 459, this has happened in the last 8 eight years. Many gorilla conservation organizations have taken part. This census also included the Mountain Gorillas living in Virunga Mountain Ranges of Rwanda and Congo, making an overall total of 1,063.
The 2018 Gorilla Bwindi – Sarambwe population shows about 91 groups of Mountain gorillas in the world, whereby 50 groups of Mountain Gorillas are in Bwindi. The other 41 groups are shared between Mgahinga, Virunga Rwanda and Congo. Of the 1,063 Gorillas in the world, 459 are in Bwindi National, Bwindi harboring almost half of the world’s Mountain Gorillas.
During the Mountain Gorillas Census, there were 13 solitary individuals that are a bit elderly and do not belong to the 50 groups of Gorilla in Bwindi. Uganda Hosting half of the Mountain Gorillas Population has exhibited our commitment to conservation.
