The Bwindi impenetrable national park harbors the endangered mountain gorillas in Uganda, strategically located in South Western Uganda. Having about 400 Mountain Gorillas, Gorilla trekking in Bwindi has become the major activity to be done in Bwindi, these come from about 36 gorilla families. On a daily basis about 2 -3 Gorilla groups are usually available for tourists to habituate and 13 Gorilla groups are available for Gorilla Trekking safari tours on a Uganda safari. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park has about 13 groups that can be trekked. These groups translate into about 104 Gorilla permits each costing 250,000 UGX for East Africans, 700 dollars for the foreign Non – Residents and 600 For the foreign residents and 112 permits including Gorilla habituation safaris.

Some of these Gorilla groups are Mubale Gorilla Group also called the M-Group in Buhoma, Habinyanja Gorilla Group, H- Group in Buhoma, Rushegura Gorilla Group in Buhoma, Oruzogo Gorilla Group in Ruhijja, Bitukura Gorilla Group in Ruhija, Kyaguliro Gorilla Group in Ruhija, Nshongi Gorilla group in Rushaga, Mishaya Gorilla Groups in Rushaga, Kahungye Gorilla Group in Rushanga, Busingye Gorilla Group in Rushaga, Bweza Gorilla Gorilla group in Rushaga, Nkuringo Gorilla Group in Rushaga.

Gorilla habituation experience can go on for 4 hours and its only in Uganda where you can have such an amount of time with the Gorillas, Gorilla trekking safari in Uganda has increased due to the reduced gorilla trekking permits in Uganda compared to Rwanda’s gorilla trekking Permits.

Mountain Bike Rides in Buhoma Area

The mountain bikes can be rented for a day with a guide or with no Guide. But remember with a guide you experience a lot and get to see all the nice things you would have missed in case you were to ride alone.

The mountain biking is offered by a community support group called Ride 4 a Woman, the biking can go on for 3 hours this is the Forest Trail Mountain Bike safari with a lot to see around Bwindi Impenetrable forest National park, you could also do a Birding Bike Rides or just a ride into the forest following nice features like the Ivy River Trail. All these are with a guide. The Guides are well-trained, some are experts in birding, others in nature safaris and cultural adventures but all are well versed with Bwindi.

Besides the Forest Trail Mountain Bike, you could also do the Village Bike Ride, this is a two-hour ride that usually takes the same route as a village walk. During this ride you will get to meet the Bagika and Batwa People, visit the Craft center, the banana brewery for local booze and also get to learn lots of things from the Batwa.

Batwa experience happens in an old Forest next to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park. This experience begins with a nature walk, hiking through the forest, learning of their survival and residential methods and plans.
