ZIWA Rhino Sanctuary closed by UWA is in line with its mandate of protecting Wildlife in Uganda. As seen in the Uganda wildlife act 2019. The Uganda Wildlife Authority – UWA has taken as of today 20th April 2021 full charge of the security of ZIWA Rhino sanctuary found in Nakasongola District.
But we have hope for the sanctuary to open by 10th June 2021. All questions about Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary re-opening will have an answer on this day.
The closure activation or triggering was by the perpetual misunderstandings. These were between Ziwa Rhino and the wildlife ranches, who up to now are to be disputing.
The Ugandan Wildlife Authority reprimands about 27 people. These were amidst the wrangles. And they were part of property vandalism at ZIWA Rhino Sanctuary.
UWA has suspended all tourism activities that take place in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This affects Amuka Safari Lodge before you go there please make a call.
Uganda Government closed its only Rhino Sanctuary till to date June 2021. As I write Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary remains Closed.
The beneficiaries are still stranded. More than 3000 cattle that were grazing from the sanctuary land were banned. The cattle owners don’t know what to do.

Secondly, there was a school in the sanctuary Hakuna Matata Nursery and Primary school. The teachers who teach here were paid by Rhino Fund Uganda. But now all these are no more. The school educated children from way down as babies teaching them to Value their environment including wildlife conservation. We are still in waiting until the final translocation happens.
