Uganda will celebrate world Wildlife Day 2020 in Kisoro, together with the rest of the world Uganda will honor and celebrate the United Nations World Wildlife Day on 3rd March, 2020. These celebrations will officially be held in Kisoro district at Saza grounds with the Uganda president His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
This was made firm by the state Minister for Tourism, wildlife and antiquities Hon Godfrey Kiwanda at the Media launch of world Wildlife Day activities at the Media House to promote the best Uganda safari tours.
The theme for this years World Wildlife Day 2020 is “Sustaining Wildlife for the benefit of the present and the Future generations” This looks at ensuring peaceful co – existence of the people and Wildlife. This aligns with the UN sustainable Developments Goals 1, 12,14 and 15, the goals that only aim at alleviating Poverty, ensuring Sustainability in the Use of Resources.
World Wildlife Day 2020, we celebrate wild plants and animals in their varied and beautiful forms as an element in the world’s biological diversity.
This was Initiated on 23 February 2020, with the wildlife marathon having Hon Deputy Speaker as the chief Runner, this was followed by the Conservation Conference that was launched on Feb 27th.
Uganda has indeed put in effort to make bigger yields towards conserving Wildlife and Sustainability and below are some of the steps towards the effort undertaken “ Uganda’s Elephant population increased from 2000 this was in 1983 to the current 6000”; Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi’s number hiked from 298 back in 1993 to over 459 by 2018. Buffalos increased from 25,000 in 1982 to now 37,054; The Uganda Kob increased from 40,000 in 1982 to 74,702, More so Rhinos that had gone extinct in the early 1980s to the current population of 28 individuals such a successful step to celebrate, we hope this will get better in time to come.
The Wildlife Day reminds us of how best we should continue with the fight, this should be educated to all the generations to come ensuring effectiveness in all aspects of conservation and sustainability.
