Jinja Day Tour

Jinja Day Tour

Jinja has for some time been known as “The Adventure Capital of Uganda” for day tour. Jinja lies in the south east of Uganda, 54 miles (87 km) north east of the capital, Kampala. It is located on the shores of Lake Victoria, near to the source of the White Nile river. The city is the chief town of Jinja District, and is considered the capital of the Kingdom of Busoga.

Nearby towns and villages include Njeru (3.5 km), Buwenda (5.2 km), Kimaka (5.2 km) Mpumudde (4.8 km), Masese (4.3 km), Walukuba (4.4 km) and Bugungu (2.8 km)

Before 1906, Jinja was a fishing village that benefited from being located on long-distance trade routes. The origin of the name “Jinja” comes from the language of the two tribes (the Baganda and the Basoga) that lived on either side of the River Nile in the area. In both languages “Jinja” means “Rock”. In most of Africa, rivers like the Nile hindered migration, this explains the ethnic boundaries along the Nile as one moves north from the river’s source on the northern shores of Lake Victoria.

One day tour
excursion to Jinja

At Gracious Tours we offer a great opportunity to its esteemed clients to participate in whitewater rafting, bungee/bungy jumping and river surfing on the Victorian source of the Nile in Jinja for fantastic day tour.

The longest river in the world measuring almost 6,700 kms has its source in Jinja a small but beautiful town of Uganda.

The Nile sprouts out of a spring which is just at the mouth of the outlet of Lake Victoria (world’s second largest lake). The spring water mixes with the water of the lake and flows through from Uganda all the way to Egypt and discharges the water in the Mediterranean.

The entire journey of water from the Source to the Delta in Egypt takes about 3 months.

The water is crystal clear and there is plenty of bird life one gets to see at the source. Vervet monkeys and some water lizards are also seen in the river during the boat cruise. Even though Nile crocodiles are the biggest and most famous reptiles in the world but in this part of the Nile there is neither crocodiles nor hippos.

It’s always an awesome experience and feeling just to be at the source of world’s longest river
